The Story of Edgar Sawtelle...

I highly recommend this novel. I just finished it yesterday, among children pounding at my door to get to me.
It's been a long time since I read a book that was this deliciously written! Another tip...spend the money to buy this book in hardcover. You will want to lend it out or keep it around your house for years. This will be a classic for sure.
What surprises me the most is that this is David Wroblewski's first attempt at a novel. Are you kidding?

Props to David!

The basic plot to this novel is young boy, born mute, works with his family to raise special dogs. Don't let this throw you off if you aren't a "dog person" involved with the deaf, or a boy. I'm neither of the three and still thoroughly enjoyed this story, so much I had to post about it.

So if it is not in your budget to go out and purchase a new book, remember you also have the library, friends and papperback swap. Post if you have read this book and let me know what you think.

Enjoy your day! Enjoy your book.

I'm so glad you reviewed this one. I have to admit that the fact that it was an Oprah pick made me avoid it! Isn't that awful? I'll have to give it a try. It sounds good.

Shelly-
I agree about Oprah's book club! {although I like Oprah} I took back the first 3 of her's that I bought. They were so bad {language wise} and I felt she had an agenda she wanted to get through to the public. Now I avoid her "book club" books, but this is the best fictional book I've ever read.

Enjoy.

Okay. It looks like I'll have to add another book to my "to-read" list. I'll take a recommendation from you any time. So many books....so little time. (Sigh.)

Funny. If I hadn't read your post on this book I would NEVER have picked it up since I refuse to read Oprah Book Club Books......but maybe I'll give it a shot b/c Shawna has given it the stamp of approval. :-)

Miss you!

I am usually intimidated by huge books because I don't have the time to sit and read. Once you start reading this book, you will make the time. I spent 3 days reading this because you just can't put it down after you start reading. Excellent book. It took him 15 years and his interview can be seen on www.oprah.com. Teri
